Cricket Stats is a proper league game with player performances based on real life stats. Your team and tactics each week will depend on the opponent you're facing, and the games won and lost during the season decide your position in the league.

INTRO

The basic idea of the game is you sign players corresponding to real life players, and then in the game they bat and bowl according to their real life stats. Each player can play for only one team in each league, so you’re going head to head in competition with the other coaches/managers to sign the guys you want (the highest bidder gets the guy). The game is continuous, week to week and season to season, so you can change your squad as you go, and picking up future stars on the cheap is good for long term success (wages rise according to performances, so you don’t get to underpay them forever, but the only penalty if having to trade them to another team for a profit to balance the books).

TEAMS & TACTICS

Each week you pick your team from the players you already signed, and assign them some strategies to set the balance for each player – his runs scored in the game can be based entirely on his real life averages for the week, or on his average in the game so far, or a mix of the two. A critical calculation each week is who is going to bowl enough overs – if you don’t have enough stats to fill out the innings then your non-bowling batsmen get to bowl “penalty overs” giving up lots of runs. Bowling strategies allow you to gamble on wickets and play safe and keep economy rates down.

INNINGS SCORES

Game scores in each innings are calculated by averaging the runs scored by the batting side and the runs conceded by the bowling side, with modifications for the wickets taken by the bowling side (if the strike rate of the bowlers is high enough they shorten the innings and reduce the batting scores). There are also some adjustments for having a balanced bowling attack with lots of variety. If your bowling is too “samey” then the batting side can get extra runs.

ACTIONS & MANAGEMENT

Also each week you have some actions to bid for new players, release unwanted players, etc. There are some rudimentary “management” actions that allow you to invest for the future, gamble on current results, and so on, but the game is mostly about picking players, judging their values.

INITIAL SETUP

For a new league the initial setup is three biding rounds where you bid against the other teams and fill out your squad (the first two rounds do most of the work – the third is mostly for a good panic to fill any obvious gaps).
